Legal Ombudsman

The Legal Ombudsman is an independent and impartial scheme set up to help resolve complaints about lawyers and claims management companies in England and Wales. To find out more about the Legal Ombudsman visit their website www.legalombudsman.org.uk or phone their helpline on 0300 555 0333.

The Legal Ombudsman was established by the Office for Legal Complaints (OLC), under the Legal Services Act 2007 and began accepting complaints on 6 October 2010.

The Legal Ombudsman provides a free complaints resolution service to members of the public, micro businesses, charities and trusts.

The Legal Ombudsman can deal with complaints about regulated claims management companies and the following types of lawyers (and generally those working for them):

• Barristers
• Law costs draftsmen
• Legal executives
• Licensed conveyancers
• Notaries
• Patent attorneys
• Probate practitioners
• Registered European lawyers
• Solicitors
• Trademark attorneys

Please note that the Legal Services Board cannot intervene in any new or ongoing complaint or dispute. Information about how to complain about your lawyer is available on our FAQs page.
