22 May 2014 LSB publishes research looking at how do people resolve 'legal' problems? This research by Professor Pascoe Pleasence and Dr Nigel Balmer aims at providing a better understanding of how consumers’ demographics, attitudes, capabilities and beliefs impact on their responses to legal problems that they may face. This research builds on earlier research which showed that consumers respond to legal needs in a range of ways.
22 May 2014 LSB publishes research looking at how do we help legal services consumers make better decisions? This is an assessment of the most effective methods of supporting consumers to identify and respond to legal problems. Professor John Maule and Linstock Communications draw on experiences from the finance, health and other sectors to see whether or not existing experiences and tools can assist legal services consumers. It provides new impetus for the delivery of the regulatory objective of increasing public understanding of the citizen’s legal rights and duties.

21 March 2014 Ministry of Justice announces Chairman designate of the Legal Services Board The Ministry of Justice has announced the appointment of Sir Michael Pitt as the Chairman designate of the Legal Services Board. Sir Michael will become Chairman on 1 May 2014 succeeding David Edmonds CBE.
06 March 2014 LSB publishes assessment of sanctions and appeals processes The Legal Services Board publishes its assessment of the current regulatory framework for the administration of sanctions and appeals for those regulated by approved regulators.

20 February 2014 LSB publishes its decision on lay-chairs for regulatory bodies The Legal Services Board outlines its decision to change the Internal Governance Rules (IGRs) so that all new appointments to the role of chair in the largest regulatory bodies must be lay persons. At the same time the LSB is also consulting on a further change to the IGRs on the appointments and reappointments process for board members and their chairs.

13 February 2014 LSB announces new members of the Office for Legal Complaints The Legal Services Board announces two new members of the Office of Legal Complaint, which is the Board of the Legal Ombudsman and is responsible for the administration of the scheme.
7 February 2014 LSB writes to the Bar Council seeking clarification about undertakings it had previously given The Chair of the Legal Services Board’s letter to the Chair of the Bar Council seeking clarification about the implementation of undertakings given following the investigation by the LSB into undue influence in a regulatory decision in 2013.
4 February 2014 LSB welcomes the QASA judicial review costs and permission to appeal decision The Legal Services Board (LSB) welcomes the High Court’s order awarding costs and refusing the application for permission to appeal to the Court of Appeal the result of the judicial review in the matter of the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA).

20 January 2014 LSB welcomes the result of the QASA judicial review The High Court today ruled in favour of the Legal Services Board in the matter of the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA) Judicial Review. The ruling supports the LSB’s decision to approve the joint scheme to assure the quality of criminal advocacy put forward by the SRA, BSB, and IPS via the Joint Advocacy Group.
