LSB approves SRA’s Disciplinary (Procedure) Rules [2010] and ILEX Professional Standard’s new Code of Conduct

11 May 2010

Schedule 4 of the Legal Services Act 2007 provides that Approved Regulators must obtain approval from the LSB to alter any of their Regulatory Arrangements. The Legal Services Board has approved two further applications:

1. Solicitors Regulation Authority’s Disciplinary (Procedure) Rules [2010] – these rules will enable the SRA to exercise its new statutory powers to give written rebukes and/or impose a penalty of up to £2000 where there has been a breach of regulatory obligations or professional misconduct.

2. Institute of Legal Executives Professional Standards Amendments to its Code of Conduct – the alterations will replace the current rules-based Code with nine principles of conduct.
