LSB publishes consultation on Rules for applications for Qualifying Regulator status

The LSB has published a consultation on proposed changes to the Legal Services Board’s Rules for Approved Regulator Designation Applications to allow for applications from Approved Regulators to regulate immigration advice and services, with oversight from the LSB. The Board is required to make rules for such applications to take effect once schedule 18 of the Legal Services Act is commenced on 1 April 2011.

The new rules will not apply to those Approved Regulators that currently regulate immigration advice and services with oversight from OISC (Bar Council/BSB, Law Society/SRA and ILEX/IPS). Oversight regulation of these Approved Regulators will automatically transfer to the LSB once schedule 18 is commenced.

The consultation closes on Friday 28 January.
