Statement concerning ABS decision made at Law Society Council

24 March 2011

The Legal Services Board has, this morning, reacted to the decision, made by the March 2011 meeting of the Law Society Council, to allow the SRA to apply for Licensing Authority status.

Chairman of the LSB David Edmonds said:
“We welcome the decision of the Council of The Law Society to allow the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to make an application to become a Licensing Authority for ABS. The designation of bodies permitted to license these new forms of legal business is a major milestone in the delivery of the legal services reform agenda.

The LSB will perform its role in rigorously scrutinising an application made by the SRA – amongst those made by other bodies – based on its statutory responsibilities”.
