Outcomes of LSB Legal Advisors Panel Review

27 April 2011

In January 2010, the LSB appointed a panel of legal advisors following a competitive tender.

We have now completed an internal review of the legal advice services provided to the LSB since that time and have concluded that:

  • Existing provision from all providers has been satisfactory;
  • Our volume and mix of work is not likely to alter substantially in the coming year;
  • The costs and resource expenditure involved in re-tendering are likely to be disproportionate in relation to the possibility of advantages gained given our level of spend;
  • We should reserve the right, if none of our panel has a specialist competence to the level required for a particular matter, to make an off panel instruction on an ad hoc basis.

We have therefore decided to continue to operate our panel on the currently contracted terms and rates for the period until 31 March 2012 when we will conduct another review. All of our existing panellists have agreed to the continuation of the panel on this basis.

The results of this review are that the panel continues to comprise:

General Advisors:

  • 39 Essex Street;
  • Hogan Lovells – main contact: public law partner Paul Dacam.

Specialist Advisors

  • Philip Havers QC of 1 Crown Office Row;
  • Helga Breen of Lawrence Graham;
  • Stephanie Grundy;
  • Louise Jones of Temple Garden Chambers;
  • Trading Terms Ltd – main contact: Joanna Tall

Bruce Macmillan, LSB General Counsel said:

‘We have been pleased by the quality of support provided by our panel which brings together some very authoritative figures and teams from across the legal landscape. They have given and will continue to give valuable support to the LSB.’
